  1. Here is your upgrade for 
  2.      Spheres of Influence Version 1.9ß.

  4. ALL #?.library files, the "Spheres of Influence"
  5. executable and many data files must be replaced,
  6. (the entire distribution is included here for
  7. completion.)

  9. My recommendation is that you re-name your current
  10. SOIDATA: drawer as "soidataold" and de-compress this
  11. as normal, naming this "SOIDATA" drawer as you had
  12. your old one named (this will insure that all new
  13. files will correctly be used.) After everything checks
  14. out, delete the "soidataold" drawer.

  16. With this version release I am adding password control
  17. so that only the player who knows the password will be
  18. able to take the turn. This way your private data is
  19. shielded from prying eyes. In the original, I did not
  20. think this was needed, but others have requested this
  21. feature--so here it is!

  23. I am also trying to arrange the code so that it may
  24. be played as a BBS game. Each player would have a copy
  25. of the executable, and the BBS would act as a clearing-
  26. house doing save-file maintenance and control. At this
  27. time the "front-end" code should be all complete and
  28. this executable will work with a BBS. All I need now is
  29. to write the code which interacts with a BBS and maintains
  30. the player lists, and mediates (via E-Mail?) the activities
  31. involved with players trading and bartering. There is
  32. a cursory front end for Tempest BBSes floating around
  33. which works except for the barter design is missing as of
  34. yet.

  36. Some minor information has been added to the manual which
  37. relates to passwords and BBS handles. Passwords have their
  38. own new section, while handles are dealt with in 
  39. Section # 31 Setting Drawing Pens.
